Happy 27th
Yesterday at 10.30pm mom, dad, B and mei called to wish. Opened the unsigned birthday card - a heart flying from home to me - I was very touched. Sis definitely put in a lot of effort to create the card. Thank you!
Home is where the heart is - thank you for bringing warmth to my heart
Tseren and I woke up at 6 and walked to Weiming lake from 6.30. I ran and arrived at around 6.40 while the sun is not completely risen yet, Tseren was enjoying her usual slow walk behind still. Part of the lake is already covered with ice.
I set my camera to capture sunrise with magpies' chirps in the background. When I started feeling bored, I started taking shots. Tseren who has arrived some time ago by this time, started disturbing me, giving peace sign and rock sign.
The peace handsign that "invaded" the peace of my beautiful Weiming lake photo
As we walked back, I picked up a maple leaf which is bigger than my face. Bumped into Acelya the German girl, apparently Johann my language partner told her of my birthday. I'm glad that I managed to squeeze the sentence "ein Geschenk für mich" out. Sigh!
When Tseren knew about my birthday, her mom brought me a cashmere with a hood from Mongolia, I thanked her and told her not to buy me anything anymore. Today she borrowed my bike after breakfast. She came back with this birthday surprise for me. She parked it under the sun, the ray of light that shines onto my bike made it so beautiful. I just couldn't close my mouth smiling.
"Who Pimped My Bike"
At 11am, I went to Wudaokou with Johann. We had spicy wok at U-Center, food's not bad but it's too oily and too pricy. Johann gave me two books of his favorite author, Hermain Hesse, entitled Narziß und Goldmund, a story book translated into Chinese and Ausgewählte Gedichte von Hesse, a poem collection in both Deutsch and Chinese. Since I helped him with Mandarin before, it's time that he helps me with my Deutsch pronunciation, so I read him the poem Meinem Bruder.
A poem that reminisces childhood. How I miss mine, too. Time flies so fast...
Narziß und Goldmund und Ausgewählte Gedichte von Hesse
Johann said his favourite is actually Unterm Rad (Under the Wheel) instead of Narziß und Goldmund. Someday when I'm fluent in Deutsch, I shall find a copy and read it in Deutsch. Someday.
After that I went to Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU) to attend a academic report cum discussion. 15 Beijing universities were invited to join in this discussion. Altogether 6 students presented their thesises, 3 professors commented. Have a better idea how research papers are presented, and how academic interviews are done. Not a bad trip.
Couldn't meet Andrea the Malaysian for dinner, she stays so far away and I have a class to attend in the evening! Received another birthday call from Cindy the Indon. These two friends whom I made from Xi'an trip are really something! Such sweet girls.
At 9pm, after coming back from Deutsch class, took my shower and when I was just about to start reading, Tseren sang me a birthday song and brought me a cake. She urged me a make a wish but I didn't know what to wish for. As soon as I blew off the candle, she brought out another piece for herself and we ate together, yummy chocolate cake from Sunmile!
This is definitely my most memorable birthday spent without the physical presence of a family member. I started my very independent life, finally.

Wenn wir jetzt die Heimat wieder sehen,
Gehen wir bezaubert durch die Stuben,
Bleiben lang im alten Garten stehen,
Wo wir einst gespielt als wilde Buben.
Und von jenen Herrlichkeiten allen,
Die wir draußen in der Welt erbeutet,
Will uns keine freun mehr und gefallen,
Wenn daheim die Kirchenglocke läutet.
Stille gehen wir die alten Wege
Durch das grüne Land der Kindertage,
Und sie werden uns im Herzen rege
Fremd and groß wie eine schöne Sage.
Ach, and alles, was auf uns mag warten,
Wird den reinen Glanz doch nicht mehr haben
Wie vorzeiten, da wir noch als Knaben
Falter fingen, jeder Tag im Garten
